Indivibes: May Moments: Science, Sunshine & Sweet Basil
Hey loves,
It’s been a minute, how are you holding up?
Wherever this post finds you, I hope there’s some light peeking through. I just wanted to come on here, exhale a little, and share what this month has been teaching me.
It’s been 8 months since I started my new role in a biotech lab, and honestly… I’m just super grateful. Grateful to be where I am in the lab, and grateful to be where I am overall as a Black Woman in STEM.
This job has been such a blessing—not just professionally, but personally. It gives me room to breathe. To write and record when inspiration hits. To rest. To be present with my family and my friends. To sit with myself and just be without guilt or rushing.
In a world that constantly demands more and moves fast, having a work schedule that gives me the space to slow down and take it all in? That’s a gift. For the first time in a long time, I don’t feel burnt out. I feel… balanced. And that peace? I don’t take it for granted.
This month also brought a family milestone: my baby brother graduated college! Watching him walk across that stage, tassel swinging, was everything. We’ve come a long way from our childhood antics, and I couldn’t be prouder.
Amid the hustle and bustle, I carved out moments for myself. A fresh set of nails, some deep breaths, and the simple joy of tending to my little basil plant. There’s something healing about watching those green leaves flourish—it’s a gentle reminder that growth takes time and care.
Memorial Day weekend was the cherry on top. Me and my people took a trip to Atlantic City, NJ—my first time there! We had so much fun at a pool party right on the boardwalk—music thumping, the ocean breeze in our hair, laughter echoing through the air. Sunshine, joy, and good vibes wrapped us up like a favorite song. We danced. We reminisced. We dreamed out loud. It was a beautiful blend of rest and celebration, which was exactly what my spirit needed.
May reminded me that healing doesn’t always look like a breakthrough.
Sometimes it looks like rest. Sometimes it looks like dancing.
Sometimes it looks like basil, green and growing, reaching for the sun.
Thanks for reading.
Here’s to softness, slowness, and sweet moments that carry us forward.
